Shadow Comics #1 – 101 (1940-1949) : Based on the classic radio and pulp character, 101 issues of the original Shadow Comics series were published in nine volumes. Each of the first eight volumes lasted 12 issues and were renumbered every thirteenth issue. It was cancelled when Street and Smith, in the midst of financial difficulties, stopped publishing all comics in 1949. The Shadow did not return to comics until his campy revival by Archie Comics in 1964.
